Today we rode the Camp Verde Train

Today we took a wonderful 4hr historic ride on the Verde Canyon Railroad - from Clarkdale to Perkinsville into Arizona's 'other' canyon.... beautiful red rocks and desert and the Verde river.

As we left the old mining town of Clarkdale we settled into our vintage train car for a comfortable ride on the Verde Canyon Railroad through the wilderness of the high desert and the canyons.

Our friends Co & Flo came along with us on this wonderful stress-free fully narrated ride through the canyons and desert.

Cheryl photographing the beautiful high desert area along our train ride.

Here's a view of our train as it makes a curve through this national wilderness only seen on this train ride. There are no roads here - so unless you're on horseback you cannot see this beautiful area.

Our 4 hour relaxing ride took us over these fortified trestles where below the Verde River flows.

The canyons that the Verde Canyon Railroad goes through is home to American Bald Eagles. If you look really close - you can see the Eagle's nest that we spotted high above the canyon wall - you can just see the white top of the young eagle's head here.

The train passes towering red rocks - ancient Indian Ruins - over fortified Trestles - and as you see here through a manmade 680 ft. tunnel.

Our seats were in one of the indoor cars but we spent most of the trip on the outdoor open-air cars taking in the beauty and taking photos.

One of the stops that our train makes each trip is in Perkinsville a little town with a population of 11 people!!! And 4 of those people live in this little beige and brown house at the depot. This family takes care of the depot for the county.

The train stops here each ride to pick up ice cream sandwiches for the passengers - they were delish!

We coul see the front of our train as we rounded curves ... riding along the Verde River ....

As our train passed under the bridge we got a beautiful graphic view....

More views from the train.

The end of the day we all agreed it was a great train ride.
