Visiting the San Juan Islands

One misty day while still in Port Townsend, Washington, we decided to take the ferry through the Puget Sound and visit Friday Harbor - one of the San Juan Islands.

If you look close you can see the raindrops on the ferry window as we left the dock.
We took turns 'steering' the ferry (ha-ha).

Even with the fog the beauty of the San Juan Islands was wonderful to see.

It's Luey and Flo's turn at the wheel....

The fog gave the islands a mystical feel.
Now and then breaks in the clouds would show us fun activities - like this sea plane taking off.
The clouds cleared and this sea plane flew right by our ferry.

When the sun peeked through - everyone ran to the railings to watch the view as we floated by.

All the other vessels on the water looked so small compared to our big ferry.

Once on Friday Harbor - Co & Flo drove the car around the island to view as many sights as we could see before the rain started again.

Even through the fog we enjoyed seeing this lighthouse.
And as the fog lifted now and then we would see beautiful pastoral scenes like this.

Some of the murals here on Friday Harbor Island depict the life and food on Puget Sound.

Of course we found a Vineyard (actually a store from this vineyard) - and did some wine tasting.
This Estate Grown Madelaine Angevine won silver medals in competition and was my favorite of their Chardonays - so I bought a bottle after tasting.

The place I enjoyed the most on Friday Harbor was the Lavender Farm. Pelindaba Farms

There were rows & rows of different varieties of lavender - the air smelled so wonderful here.

I found that the colors of the lavender blooms were different among the different species.

Here I am waist deep in lavender.... and loving it.

Co is lost in the lavender making beautiful photos.

After running through the fields - I hit the gift shop and bought tons of products....
Friday Harbor is a place that I would love to spend the entire weekend - not just one day.... so much to see on the island.

On our ferry trip back to Port Townsend we had beautiful sunshine to enjoy the beauty of San Juan Islands.

Another Ferry going the opposite way through the same waterway.
We were lucky enough to be on board for a beautiful sunset as we arrived back to Port Townsend.
