On our 2nd day on Vancouver Island we went to see the little town of Chemainus that was known for all their beautiful Murals that were painted on the sides of many of the buildings in town. |
This was a Mural that also incorporated the park - most depicted life in Chemainus in the late 1800's. |
Chemainus was formed as a logging town by the European settlers who first came here. |
Here is a Mural of the One Room School House and students. |
This Mural is of a Chinese neighborhood during the 1800's. |
This is a beautiful Mural of the original Nations People that originally lived here in Chemainus. |
This is one of my favorite Murals of a First Nation woman watching as the new colonies start to come to Chemainus. |
You may have to double click on this image to see it closer - it is a Trompe L'Ouile - where it seems to have more depth by adding shadow. See Cheryl & Flo and the pups there. |
This Mural is on the side of the current Post Office and is about WWI and girls sending mail to the soldiers at war. |
This Mural was my favorite it was of the original Telephone Company with the phone Operators and that bike is a real bike built into the Mural. Loved it! |
This is a Mural of the life span of the first white child born in Chemainus in 1871. |
This mural as you can see is on the side of a Subway shop - see close up below. |
Here is a close up of this Mural of the temporary housing for the town construction camp. |
You will have to double click on this photo to see it better - I had to take 3 photos of this very wide panoramic Mural of the town during the turn of the century. |
This Mural was of the original trading post. |
This Mural is of the original Chemainus Hospital and sits next door to the current hospital. |
This is the entire Mural of the original hospital and Healthcare. It was on the side of a Pharmacy |
As we left Chemainus and all it's beautiful Murals - we couldn't help but enjoy the beautiful Hydrangas here on the Island. They range in colors of Pink, Blue and Purple... |
